What
We Do
The Department of Employee Relations manages typical human resource
functions: recruitment and City-wide training; benefits; worker safety,
and Worker's Compensation. Our mission is to help attract and retain
quality employees and maximize each employee's workday.
How
We Serve
We support the City's distinctive intangibles, such as sincere and
inspiring supervisors; a high work ethic and level of professionalism;
commitment to service; and a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. City staff
thrive on the opportunity to think creatively and offer new solutions.
Our recruitment and hiring efforts target not only the best-qualified
people, but those whose skills and work styles best complement the team.

Who
We Are
The Department of Employee Relations consists of 15 dedicated staff
members who contribute to the well-being and effectiveness of City employees.
We are organized in three divisions:
Personnel Division
The Personnel Division works closely with supervisors to recruit, hire,
and train new employees. Each new employee is chosen with care and time.
Interviews may be more comprehensive at the City of Lakewood than at
other organizations-here, finding the best fit ensures a healthy, diverse
team and an employee who feels a sense of belonging from the first day.
We also set up group trainings according to City or department needs,
and mentor and coach individuals.
Benefits Division
City of Lakewood full- and part-time employees enjoy competitive pay
and exceptional benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life, and
disability insurance. Temporary employees receive competitive pay and
some benefits. The Benefits Division ensures that employees and their
families have access to physical and mental care, as well as safety
net programs.
Risk Management Division
Risk Management provides programs and processes to protect employees
and City assets. The division manages the Workers' Compensation program,
Family Medical Leave, and all general liability claims. The Risk Management
Division promotes a safe working environment through safety trainings
and ergonomic evaluations, and insures buildings and equipment against
damage and loss.
