Frequently Asked Questions

What positions are open?

To see our current open positions, click on "Apply for a Job" in the column at right.

All open positions will be updated weekly and posted online. We accept applications only for open positions. If you are interested in working here, check our website frequently for new job openings.

How do I apply for a job?

The easiest, fastest way to apply for a job is to fill out the online application. The application link is found within each online job announcement. You may also print out an application and fax or mail it in, or drop it off in person. If you choose to complete it by hand, please write legibly.

Besides Employment opportunities the City of Lakewood has Volunteer opportunities. Please click below for more information.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

How do I know that you received my application?

If you applied online, you will receive an automated confirmation reply to your e-mail address. Some people do not receive that reply because their security settings send it to the junk mail folder. If you are unable to find that reply, feel free to give us a call, and we will look up your application.

How do I find out the status of my application?

Discover the Job Status online of any position. Once a position has closed, it generally takes two to four weeks to review applications. We will call you after that to schedule an interview. If you have not heard from us, it is likely we received applications from many qualified candidates and have chosen to move forward with other applicants.

How can I increase my chances of getting a job with the City of Lakewood?

We welcome applications from anyone who meets the minimum qualifications, which are unique to each position. Select "See the full job description" from the job announcement, and carefully evaluate each of the "Essential Qualifications" and "Physical and Mental Requirements." Only candidates who meet those qualifications and requirements will be considered for the position. "Preferred Qualifications" are ideal, but not required to be a viable candidate.

Interviews may involve several City employees, and therefore take place at times that may not be ideal for you. Being flexible about scheduling and arriving on time will work to your advantage.

How do I file for unemployment?

The Colorado Department of Labor Unemployment page provides instructions and an online form for you to fill out at www.coworkforce.com/UIIC/. Please contact the Colorado Department of Labor with questions about that application.
