| General
Information
The
Public Improvement Fee (PIF) is collected and used to finance a
portion of the cost of new public improvements at Creekside Shopping
Center. Public improvements at Creekside include such things as
the demolition of existing improvements and construction of new
public improvements, such as public streets, sidewalks, utilities,
parking facilities, a stormwater management system, and open space.
The City of Lakewood is collecting the PIF on behalf of the Redeveloper.
The
PIF at Creekside Shopping Center is 1.5%
on all sales
transactions, as defined in the PIF Covenant. The PIF is a fee and
NOT a tax; therefore, it becomes part of the total sales price and
is subject to sales tax.
Please review the Creekside - PIF
Brochure (PDF file) for more examples and detailed information.

Licensing
All
businesses operating in Lakewood must obtain a Sales or Use Tax
License. Service businesses that do not sell anything
must obtain a City Use Tax License. The licensing process ensures
that the City has current emergency notification information and
that the area is properly zoned for your business activity. You
will not need a separate PIF License; the tenant information from
the Sales Tax License Application will be used to establish your
PIF Account.
