The
Lakewood Police Department Investigation Division is responsible
for the investigation of all crimes that occur in the City of Lakewood.
A Division Chief leads the Investigation Division and either a commander
or civilian manager leads each section. The division is comprised
of three separate sections that are the Crimes Against Persons Section,
Crimes Against Property Section, and the Crime Lab. Each of these
sections is made up of several different teams that have a unique
and distinct function. Detectives and civilian personnel that comprise
the Investigation Division are professional, dedicated, and motivated
men and women who seek to bring to justice those who commit crime
and cause disorder in our city.
A

is made up of five different teams. These teams are the Major Crimes
Team, the Crimes Against Children Team, the Victim Advocate Team,
and two separate Juvenile Crime Units. This section investigates
all violent crimes committed against adults or juveniles including
homicide, robbery, domestic violence, and sex assault to name only
a few. Members of this section are also part of the First Judicial
District Law Enforcement Critical Incident Response Team that investigates

and their families.

made up of several different teams. Three of these teams are assigned
geographic sectors and they investigate all property crimes that
occur in the North Sector, the West Sector, and the South Sector.
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is responsible for a wide
range of investigative activities that include liquor enforcement,
prostitution, organized crime, and terrorism to name just few. The
departments two Crime Analyst's are also assigned to this team and
they provide current and up to date analysis of the crime patterns
occurring throughout the city. Finally, members of this section
belong to the West Metro Drug Task Force. This is a multi agency
countywide task force that investigates the distribution of narcotics
in Jefferson County.
The
Crime Lab is led by a civilian manager and is comprised of two separate
teams. These teams are the Forensic Analysis Team and the Forensic
Identification Team. The Forensic Analysis Team is responsible for
the processing of major crime scenes and evidence recovered from
those scenes. The Forensic Identification Team is responsible for
the identification of suspects based on fingerprints recovered from
