Permits Necessary for Roofing & Siding Repairs after Hailstorm
What You Need to Know About
Re-Roofing or Re-Siding Your Home
- A permit is required to re-roof your home or to re-side your home.
- Replacement of windows and doors that are the same size does not require
a permit.
- Permits must be obtained before starting the project. Permits are
valid for 180 days.
- If you want to perform the repairs yourself, you are allowed to do
so as the owner and resident of your own home. You may obtain the permit
as owner.
- If you hire a contractor, make sure they are registered with the City
of Lakewood as a contractor. Call 303-987-7500 if you would like to
check to make sure your contractor is registered with the City of Lakewood.
- If you hire a contractor, have the contractor obtain the permit. Have
them show you a permit for your home before you let them begin work.
- Once the roofing or siding is completed, an inspection should be requested
so that the City of Lakewood can inspect the work and ensure code compliance.
NOTE: Re-roofing
Inspections
Due the magnitude of the July 2009 hailstorm and the large number of re-roofing
permits issued since the storm, re-roof inspections may take several weeks
after the request is entered.
